Pick a comic, any comic, now show to the camera. I won’t look. Is it Kevin Day? Yes it is. The thing is, it could have been any comic. If you walked into any working man’s club and there was a comedian on stage he would be just like Day. Or trying to emulate him. Day is good at what he does but follows a well-trodden path. The odd swear word. Bit of blue "for the dads" and regular apologies for being so rude, accompanied by a wink that says it’s going to happen again any minute.
This isn't to say he's unoriginal; he might even be in for a chance to win best joke of the fringe. He has more than a few absolutely marvellous one-liners that he holds back like cards up his sleeve for the quieter moments.
The quieter moments aren’t all that frequent either. Day doesn't mind waiting for the audience any time they miss the joke, but will definitely make a joke out of the fact they missed it. His delivery follows a gentle pace, leading us calmly through each bit. He lets the crowd settle then charges on with the next one. Textbook stuff.
Day is a rock solid comedian. If they ever bring back Bullseye he is definitely the man to present it. It would be smashing great super.
